Mission Statement

Dignity/San Francisco is a self-governing faith community of gay, lesbian, bi-sexual and transgendered Catholics, our families and our friends. Our community is based in, and strengthened by, the participation and leadership of our members. As a local chapter of DignityUSA, we serve lesbian, gay, bi-sexual and transgendered Catholics in the San Francisco Bay Area. We also encourage and support the efforts of other gay and lesbian communities.

We challenge ourselves to create a love-centered community which serves our members by:

† Promoting the spiritual development of lesbians, gays, bisexuals and transgendered people through inclusive celebration of the Eucharist and other sacraments, Scripture, personal and communal prayer, education, and an active love of neighbor;

† Reinforcing the self-acceptance and dignity of gay, lesbian, bi-sexual and transgendered Catholics by encouraging their full participation in the life of the Church and society;

† Working for the development of a holistic inclusive understanding of sexuality in the Church, and for the acceptance of bisexuals, gays, lesbians, and transgendered people as full equal members;

† Providing social and recreational activities in an atmosphere where friendships and loving relationships can develop, and where our sense of self acceptance and dignity as gay, lesbian, bi-sexual and transgendered people can be affirmed;

† Working for justice and social acceptance for gays, lesbians, and bisexuals through education, political action, and legal reform.
